Acronyches
Diagnostic description:
The genus Acronyches has among it the largest members of the Leptogastrinae and all species are robust flies. Most easily distinguished from other Leptogastrinae is Acronyches by the shape of the face, which is triangular in frontal view (wide ventrally and very narrow dorsally). So far, 10 species are known to science.
Distribution:
The genus Acronyches is restricted in its distribution to the New World and ranges from Mexico in the north to Argentina and Paraguay in the south.
