Psilonyx
The genus Psilonyx is distinguished from other Leptogastrinae primarily by the globular male terminalia. In general appearance, species look very similar to Beameromyia and females of the two genera can be confused. So far, 7 species are known to science, but many undescribed species particularly from Central and South America await description.
The genus Psilonyx is restricted to the New World and occurs from the USA in the north to northern Argentina in the south. A few species have originally been described from China, Japan, and Russia, but these species are not ‘true’ Psilonyx as they don't show the globular male terminalia. Many undescribed species particularly from Central and South America await description.
